The mountain in this park is known as Chinomishiri ("the mountain where we pray") by the Ainu people, and was named Mt. Arashiyama in the late 19th century for its resemblance to the iconic mountain in Kyoto. You'll also find Hoppo Yasoen (Northern Wild Plants Garden), with a collection of native species and other northern plants.
